Who We Are

Marilyn K. Litt

Of Counsel

Marilyn K. Litt is of Counsel at the Litt Law Group specializing in the area of Matrimonial Law. Marilyn graduated Hofstra Law School in 1978 and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1979 where she was the Supervising Attorney as the Nassau County Department of Social Services. Marilyn then open her own law office in Rockville Centre in which she worked for over 30  years handling family court matters, divorce and custody proceedings, and was a Law Guardian for children. She is admitted to the Eastern and Federal District Courts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United Stated.

Marilyn was on the forefront of grandparents visitation rights and involved in a landmark decision back in the 1980’s. The underlying principle of the decision was based on the humanitarian concern that visits with a grandparent are often a precious part of a child's experience and the grandchildren have significant benefits from such visits which children cannot have from any other relationship. The law does not create an absolute or automatic right of visitation. The statute instead gives a mechanism for a procedure for grandparents to acquire standing to seek visitation with a minor grandchild. Marilyn is still involved with these issues and is always seeking justice for parents and children and all other family members regarding parental rights versus the best interest of the children.

Marilyn has received numerous awards over the years such as the following:

  • Assigned Counsel Defender Plan- Exemplary service for over 10 years
  • Nassau County Pro Bono Service Award
  • 1981 Woman of Year—American Business Women’s Association
  • NY Judicial Court Employees Award   - Humanitarian Award
